PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
John Goulstone
I would like to extend another thank you to our student teachers who have been with us for the last 5 weeks. Jake, Lucy, Michelle and Elliot all the best for your teaching career in whatever direction you choose to take it. I know the teachers have appreciated the work that they have done with the students and the children have really enjoyed them being here.
Well done to our four athletes who attended the Otago Athletic Champs on Tuesday this week. Tyler, Shayden, Kane and Sonny you can be proud of the effort that you put in and your achievements on the day. Top 10 finishers in the various events they were in is very good, given the competition.
Last week’s Principal’s Award was an unusual affair due to the person not being at school that day. I was then going to present it on Monday however they were still absent. I finally managed to catch up with them on Wednesday! Well done Shayden Brown.
The whole school attended the Pantomime “Snowy” on Wednesday. It was great to see children from the community on stage as well as other locals. For a lot of children it may have been the first pantomime that they had seen. There was plenty of vocal interaction between the cast and the audience and the odd dad joke thrown in. The children lasted well through the 2 hour time frame. The rain also held off which was a bonus. Well done to the writer of the pantomime and to all of the cast and crew for a good 2 hours of entertainment.
Camp and Activity Week is just around the corner which means that the end of the year is fast approaching. There is always so much going on in these last few weeks including end of year reports, which the teachers are hard at work writing. The junior athletics is two weeks away followed by the Year 6 leavers Dinner (Wednesday 7 December). The year 6 speeches are a highlight of the evening. I am very hopeful that the end of year picnic and assembly will go ahead (despite increasing covid levels) and that we can end the year in our traditional fashion.
Last week the appointment committee met to interview our shortlisted candidates to fill Katie Herbert’s full time job that she resigned from earlier in the year. I am pleased to announce that Rachel Scott is now full time (Rachel has been covering Eliza’s maternity leave). This means that we are in the process of appointing a half time person to work with Eliza Collings in Room 3 for 2023. We should have this done by sometime next week.
