Kia ora koutou
A huge thank you to the people who came and helped out at the working bee on Friday. We had a small but hard working group of parents who achieved a lot in the two hours. I really appreciated the time and effort that you gave to getting one of our gardens on track to becoming a native garden that will require a lot less maintenance and still look good. This is one of three gardens that we are looking at changing over to a lower maintenance native garden. Thanks to Tyler and Sam who dug the holes for the plants and to Ryan for watering them in.
I would like to extend our sympathy and thoughts to Robin Siataga’s family, friends and to the Macrae’s School staff and children and wider community as they mourn the loss of their loved one, colleague, teacher and principal.
Well done to our kapa haka group for their performance on Thursday at the Maori and Pacific Island Festival. You made us proud. Kā mihi nui Megan Gallagher for your work with our children getting them ready for the event. Kā mihi nui also to all of her helpers - Rachel Scott and Kirstin Engelbrecht as well as those students from EOHS who have helped with our kapa haka group. I was very impressed watching the haka - Tika Tonu _ at the end of our performance. Everyone gave it their all.
Please remember that school opens to children at 8:30am. Before this time teachers are getting ready for the day. At times you may need to send your child to school earlier than this for a variety of reasons. Please let your classroom teacher know if this is the case so that we can be aware and make provisions for it.
Don’t forget to keep the evening of Wednesday 19 October free to attend the Netsafe talk on how to keep your child safe online, whether it be playing games, using social media or surfing the net. It will be at the Waikouaiti Event Centre. This is a great opportunity for you to get some practical ideas on how to manage this tricky area that is both very useful and can be full of pitfalls if we don’t follow some simple guidelines as a parent of children who use the internet and as ourselves as users of this service.
The below is an extract from advice given to us regarding the new long term strategy around covid-19:
- Household contacts of a person with COVID-19 do not need to isolate, but instead are asked to complete a RAT test each day, for five days. Therefore, students/ākonga who are household contacts but test negative and do not have COVID-19 symptoms, should continue to attend school.
- Information on how to get RAT kits can be found here: Request a RAT– Ministry of Health
- Masks are no longer required on public transport or school transport and in line with other mask changes, they are no longer strongly recommended in school settings.
- Positive cases remain legally required to isolate for seven days. Anyone who is symptomatic, including household contacts, should stay at home and get tested for COVID-19.
One off public holiday - Due to the recent announcement of the one off public holiday the school will be closed on Monday 26 September for the commemoration of Queen Elizabeth II who as we all know died recently at the respectable age of 96.
Hei kona mai I roto I nga mihi, Goodbye for now and thanks
