PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Welcome back to the start of term 2, 2023. Everyone has had a slightly longer break than we would normally have in the April Holidays due to Easter, teacher only day and ANZAC Day and the children are looking well rested. The staff had a very full and productive day on Monday as they developed their understanding of the background and components of the refreshed curriculum. My understanding is that there will be a further teacher only day in Term3 or 4 to do further work with the refreshed curriculum.
You will have seen by now through the information sent home yesterday about who the school’s new principal is. Kerry will be down sometime this term to meet the staff and pupils and get a feel for where everything is before she starts in term 3. Thank you to the Board of Trustees for all the work you have done on finding someone to take the school forward and be a part of our school community.
We will have a mihi to welcome our new students and whānau on Monday morning at 10am followed by our usual morning meeting.
We are moving our policies over to an online provider called Schooldocs. The process takes a while, however it should be up and running by the end of this term. A lot of schools use this service as policies are easier to access and review by all. I may have mentioned this last term. I did most of the leg work over the break to get the transfer started. I am sure there will be some tweaking still needed, as with any new system.
Thank you to Sarah- Jane and her family for laying the wreath at the Palmerston ANZAC service. Well done to Indy for reading her poem in front of a large audience. This was very impressive.
We have Constable Jay coming to talk to each class about road safety on Monday next week. It is good to see the extension of the footpath in Stromness Street so that children walking to and from school don’t have to walk on the road if they are coming this way.
The concept for term 2 is sustainability with a science focus and being science communicators. There will be lots of variation on the concept in each class including the science around rockets and experiments on harakeke as part of a science outreach programme run by Josh Bristowe from Plant and Food Research in Room 6.
Hei kona mai I roto I nga mihi, Goodbye for now and thanks
