The rippa team had a big day on Wednesday as they competed in the Subway Cup in Ashburton. Well done to all of the team. I am super proud of you all for putting in a big day and keeping on going even when the games didn’t go your way. A huge thank you to Briar and Laura who looked after the team and to BK and Allister for supporting them. The team couldn’t have gone to the event without the fantastic parent help.
We have been discussing how to go about our parent interviews in week 2 next term in terms of fitting everyone in, especially with Room 6 having 30 students. Our normal short and long day starting after school doesn’t give us enough slots. This year we would like to trial starting at 1pm on Monday 25 July and going through to 5pm. On Wednesday 26 we would run our normal 3:15-7pm session. It means that on the Monday we would need to run an alternative programme for the children which might involve a video in the activity centre so that one or two people could manage the children in this space. We would also ask if you were having an interview during the 1-3pm slot that you take your children with you when you have finished to lessen the load in the activity centre. We looked at a variety of other options however running the interviews over more days cut into other things that we were doing and coupled with winter weather driving conditions for teachers wasn’t ideal. It is a trial for this year so please keep this in mind. Interview times will come out at the start of term 3 so it doesn’t get lost in the break. They are being done through Skool Loop. If you don’t have the app then ring Jan in the office and she will do it for you.
We had the situation this week when we had a teacher on sick leave and no reliever. We managed the situation by amalgamating the class into two others. We try very hard to find relievers so this does not happen however at times we are unable to and I can’t be in the classroom myself. This does not happen very often however we have a limited supply of relief teachers so it is always a possibility.
We are finally having our first Hui Ako at the Waikouaiti Event Centre next week after a number of years without it. Our performance will be around 12:30pm - spectators are very welcome. The Event Centre does have a capacity of 500 people so we have to be careful we don’t exceed this.
Hangi We need donations of kai for our hangi in the last week of term. Potatoes, pumpkin and other root vegetables would be great. We are going to fill 4 baskets so we have enough kai for the children and parents who want to come along. We would also like donations of meat if possible however not until Wednesday 28 June so it doesn’t go off. Mutton or pork is good. Venison is sometimes a bit too lean for a hangi however is also quite tasty. We are going to be doing the prep on Wednesday 28 June. The hangi is going down at around 6am so we will need to take the baskets across the night before. This means that on Thursday 29 June we will have a small matariki ceremony at 8:30am down by the creek followed by milo and a biscuit in the activity centre. The hangi is being lifted at 12:30 so we will head across to the High School and watch it being lifted and then eat over there.
Hei kona mai I roto I nga mihi, Goodbye for now and thanks

School Pool – Volunteers needed
The children love the school pool and after numerous whanau comments in the School Review about how good the swimming lessons were, we really need your help.John has been completing all the maintenance on the pool and with him leaving we require a person or people to complete this going forward so the children can continue to use this facility.
This will encompass preparing the pool for the commencement of swimming in Term 4 and Term 1 approx 3-4 hours each and then cleaning and monitoring as required.

WELL DONE to the following students who competed in the Subway Cup Rippa Competition in Ashburton yesterday.
Luke Heckler, Kane Kelly, Forbes Mackenzie, Spencer Smith, Axel McLeod, Paige Kearney, Hope Helm, Bella O'Brien.
Report by Bella O'Brien
We left straight from school and travelled to Ashburton, I went with my Dad. I stayed at an air B n B.
On Wednesday it was sunny but a little bit cold to start off with. We tried our hardest. I scored one try, Kane was the top try scorer. We played 5 games, the girls didn't have any subs so we had to play all the games. We had some close games but didn't manage a win. Subway was the sponsor so we got FREE subway for lunch which was yummy. We got a roll, biscuits and apples. It took a long time to get home.
A big thank you to all our parent help who helped with transport and accommodation.

DEVICES AT SCHOOL
Palmerston Primary School does not recommend that students bring personal digital devices to the school. These are not necessary to have during the day. However, we understand that some parents like their children to have a device to communicate with them after school. Parent/Caregiver and student responsibilities If a parent/caregiver needs to contact their child urgently during the day, they should call the office.
If a student brings a personal digital device to our school, the following guidelines apply:
The school does not accept responsibility for lost, damaged, or stolen personal digital devices brought to the school but investigates any issues as appropriate.
Students must hand in their device to the office at the beginning of the day, and can collect the device at the end of the day.
