Kia ora e te whānau,
Marae Visit/End of Term Sharing
It has been a busy term of learning using our local Kāi Tahu narratives with the tamariki and
kaiako super excited to share their learning at Puketeraki Marae tomorrow. The powhiri
starts at 10am if you are joining us. We are still looking for a male speaker to represent the
school if you can help, please make contact.
Safer School Grounds
Our fence is nearly finished which will be a great relief to teachers as it has been a huge
concern over the last few years having children who are a high risk of leaving school
grounds during learning time. When it is completely finished with the gates working correctly
it will be a much safer environment for all our children. A huge thank you to Anderson
Fencing and Earthworks who have done an amazing job, the fence looks great, and they
have been excellent to work with.
Junior Block Upgrade
With the junior block upgrade starting in this school holidays Rooms 1, 2 and 3 will be
moving into the Activity Centre. The teachers are setting up the learning space and planning
how they will work together. They have also asked the children for their ideas and wants to
ensure teaching and learning continues as closely to ‘normal’ as possible.
They are planning to spend Thursday and Friday next week in the space so the children will
know what to expect when they return for Term 2. The teachers will keep in regular contact
with whānau as they transition to this space. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa
Lyell.
The Ministry of Education will be installing a temporary toilet block on site for the juniors and
putting in sound proofing in the Activity Centre over the Term break.
Goal Setting Meetings/Hero
We had a very successful 2 nights of goal setting meetings with most of our whānau
attending. Our goal is to work towards all the children sharing their learning with whānau
followed by a short conversation with the teacher/s. We will continue to build on this as the
kaiako and tamariki become familiar with using Hero for reporting. We encourage you to get
the Hero app so you will be able to see this is when we open it up to whānau. There will be a
printable option for reporting twice a year for those who do not have access to the app.
Interschool Sports
We have had a very successful Term of children participating in interschool sporting events
and representing the school in competitions. A special thank you to Chelsey who is our
Sports Coordinator and all the whānau who transport and support the children.
