Our classes are bustling with excitement around innovation and creating during learning time. Children are experiencing problem solving, collaboration, negotiation and perseverance as they create using a range of resources in the classrooms.

It was great to see so many whānau turn up for Learning Conferences despite the amount of illness we have had throughout the school and one very wet evening. If you were unable to make a meeting with the teacher of your tamariki please make contact to arrange a time that suits.
All the reports and learning examples are on Hero and we are happy to print a paper copy of one if you would like.

We are having a terrible time with winter illness over the last two weeks. Currently in the community is Covid, Influenza and a stomach bug. We have had at least 20 children off sick every day which is nearly ¼ of the school.
The best way to stop the spread of sickness is to keep your children at home when they are sick.

The Mini Fair is approaching fast, we would love donations for our White Elephant Stall, eg Books, clothing, brick a brack etc (please ensure any electronic items are fit for purpose and in going order)

Room 3 have been learning about bridges. We have learnt about the different reasons we build different types of bridges. This week we used that learning to create our own. We had a competition for who could build the strongest bridge using play dough, a paper cup, popsicle sticks and matchsticks. There was a lot of team work and communication happening, they all persevered and worked very hard to create their bridges! We had bonus points for the most creative bridge, and the best teamwork. Congratulations to our winners. Strongest bridges (3 way tie) Tobias and Sam T, Eden and Rosie, Kage, Phoebe, Benjamin. Most creative bridge Ryder, Toby and Sam P. Best teamwork Emily and Macie

Last week in wet, cold conditions we met Waikouaiti. It was a hard fought game with our neighbours. We certainly dominated in the forwards; well done to Kage McLeod as POD and a special mention to Adaline and Matilda for their play up front, super tackling and passing. Our defenders had a quieter night but Waikouaiti managed to score a couple of quick goals at the end. 2-2 was a good result.

This week we played Tainui Tornados. Probably the toughest game we have but we were able to lift our game in response. We had a lot of defending to do in this game and many goals were saved; well done Sam Tomlinson as POD, your focus and strong hitting were invaluable.  Also as POD, Adaline Smith leading the attack and reading the game so well, always ready to receive and pass.

First loss of the season, against a difficult team. 

Palmy showed amazing sportsman’s ship, and were very resilient in a tough game. 

POD went to Evy Dippie who never gave up and showed good “coming in front” for the ball and good passing down the court, plus great support play, well done.

A great game against St Clair with a whopping win to us. The girls played so well and we had a secret weapon in the first half with Rosie helping us out for her first ever game!! She played so well, as did our POD Adaline Smith, lot of tips and intercepts as well as she shot a goal, she was on fire.

This afternoon’s game was awesome with all the kids giving it their all and the result showed how they dominated the game against a lovely team.
The team’s defence was fantastic and the turn overs included some great intercepts and tips leading to some outstanding team goals with our shooters running hot.
POD - Alisha Porter and James Kelly
James showed great discipline with his defence and his hunger for the ball lead to some great intercepts and game play.
Alisha brought the energy as normal and was a great wee zippy player who didn’t do any stepping in the game and was always ready for the next pass and driving onto the ball.

Year 3/4 Rebels won 16-6 against Fairfield Silver
What a game today!!! A big win today, Everyone’s shooting was on fire!! They played so well as a team, passing to the space and coming forward.
POD - Mac Heckler (thanks for filling in)  he fitted in like he had been playing the whole season. He had great defence getting intercepts and tips and played great at C also making space and feeding the attacks.

Protect against measles

Confirmed measles cases linked to overseas travel have recently been identified in Aotearoa.

Low immunity, and the close contact nature of education settings, means one infected person could expose and spread measles to many others.

To be immune, you must have had measles before or have had two doses of a measles vaccine after the age of 12 months. 

Te Whatu Ora | Health New Zealand is encouraging school kaimahi to look for the signs and symptoms of measles and to check their immunisation status:
