Mānawatia a Matariki! We have had a busy term of learning, and it has speed by. Our sustainability focus has led to learning in and about the environment as well as ways to sustain great school relationships and learning focused behaviour. Last weeks assembly was a full house which was wonderful to see. Leading assembly and sharing learn gives the children an opportunity to develop resilience, confidence and capacity to speak or perform in front of an audience. I wanted to take the opportunity to thank Grant and Maria who have been working with our children to learn ukulele, supporting our kapa haka and have written a wonderful song for us.
East Otago High School Matariki Celebration
Our senior school went to East Otago High School on Tuesday with children from Kāritane, Waikouaiti and Hampden Schools. They participated in great learning opportunities linked to Matariki and lead by the students at the high school. Our children and staff really enjoyed the day!
Matariki Celebration/Celebration of Learning
We had another great turn out for our Matariki Celebration, followed by breakfast and Celebration of Learning in the classrooms. Our children love sharing their learning with siblings, whānau and visitors to our school. After whānau left the children had an extra treat of marshmallows toasted over the fire pit. Thank you to the staff and whānau who helped out to make our Matariki breakfast successful.
Reports and Conferences
We will now be having learning conference meetings Week 3 Term 3 as there was a school clash in week 2. You will be able to make times to meet your child/ren’s teacher through Hero or contacting the school office. The report and learning section of Hero has been turned off to whānau as teachers write the reports and update the learning. This will be opened next term before the conferences.

Last night, the School Board got together to discuss the governance of Palmerston School. A couple of great topics came up, like how attendance is improving every year and how the Wellbeing Room is making a big difference for everyone at school.
If you’re curious about what the School Board does, why not come along to the next meeting? It’s happening on Wednesday, 25th June, at 6:30 pm. It’s a great chance to see how decisions are made and how the Board helps the school grow and improve.
We’ve got elections for new board members coming up in September this year, so if you’re thinking about joining, this is a perfect time to check things out. Come along, learn more, and see how you can get involved!
We’d love to see you there—let’s keep working together to make Palmerston School a fantastic place for everyone.
