Kia ora koutou!
Well done to those children who competed in either the Otago Cross Country or the North Otago Cross Country events. These events are a chance to have a go racing against a wider pool of competitors in a very competitive environment. I was a bit worried that the weather would affect both events however they went ahead which was great. Well done to all our competitors who went on a snowy afternoon to the North Otago event and to Izzy who came second in the year 5 girls’ race and Kaydence who finished in the top ten in the tear 4 girls’ race. Giving our best in sporting and academic pursuits is what we aim for with our children and the ability to be intrinsically motivated to always try to do a little better each time we tackle something be it in the sporting or academic field.
The working bee will be on unless it rains on Friday. There is a bit to do. For those who have weed eaters the area out the back around the tunnel house needs a good trim. If you have access to a good sized chipper then there are lots of branches that could be chipped and added back to the garden. We are taking out some existing plants to make way for a more native and lower maintenance garden by the admin area. This will involve a bit of grunt work digging up roots. We want to relocate the flax plants as well as any other plants that we can get out with some hope of survival. There are a few bulbs to dig up also. If we have time we have some of the new plants to go in. Thank you to everyone who offered to pick the plants up and to Dale Tomlinson for transporting them. The offers are very much appreciated.
Tuesday ended up being a late start and later than expected. When the Northern Motorway opened the Kilmog was still very icy which someone reported back to us which then prompted the later start of 11 am. When I went over at 9:30ish there had been an accident on the Kilmog which slowed things even further, so the caution was well placed. I am always disturbed at the speed some people travel on icy roads although even when being cautious icy roads can be treacherous. Thank you for your patience with this.
Well done to Charles Engelbrecht (an ex-student) who is part of the John McGlashan First 15 rugby team who won the South Island Schoolboys First 15 Championship in the weekend. Good luck for the Top 4 tournament in Palmerston North starting tomorrow.
Thank you to the Home and School who support us with their fundraising efforts. They are a small and dedicated group who can always use more committee members. Some of the support they give us is through things like buses to events, sandpit toys, sand for the sandpit and camp and activity week. They are always open to more suggestions remembering that the pool of money is very dependent on the fundraising they are able to do.
Hei kona mai I roto I nga mihi, Goodbye for now and thanks
