ACTING PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

I was going to start by saying that it’s been a busy week at school, but every week is busy here. What has been special so far is the effort put in by the teachers to prepare for the interviews over two evenings of what is normally their own time. Teachers report a very good parent attendance as well as pleasant interactions in the three way interviews which include the learners. I got the chance to meet several of you while carrying out my very difficult bell ringing exercise.
It has been tricky for our tamariki keeping off the grass this week due to the rainfall over the weekend, but we look forward to getting out tomorrow for the cross country. This is a good chance for the whole school to have a bit of fun and exercise together. I’m looking forward to meeting more of you there. The wind we’re experiencing as I write this should help to dry things out.
We have an exciting day for the year 6 students on Monday as they take the first step of their transition to the high school over the road. The other big event for them next week is the “Clued up Kids” trip on Thursday. We are still light on parent support for this trip to Oamaru. Any more offers of transport or attendance would be welcome.
Our Board held a meeting last night for a training session with Cleave Hay who is an independent provider and one of the most clued up people I have met during my time in various schools helping out. He is able to simplify regulations and make sense of impenetrable jargon in a way that makes it all seem easy.
One of the advantages of our new pellet boiler system was that it was relatively simple to give the heating a boost into the evening to keep everyone warm.
Best of luck to all running tomorrow and hoping the weather delivers as the forecasters predict
